Kids on the Block Volunteers
The Kids on the Block Program is delivered by seasoned theatre professionals in concert with skilled volunteers. Our volunteers are dedicated and committed to the well-being of the children in their community.
KOTB Volunteers receive extensive training and transportation to and from all shows. They have an opportunity to develop their skills as a puppeteer and a public speaker. There are volunteer opportunities for post-secondary students who come to us from a variety of programs, including drama, education, social work and early childhood education.
But mostly, KOTB volunteers have fun!
Here's what some KOTB volunteers have said about their experiences...
"Being recently retired, KOTB gave me something meaningful to do with all that free time."
"Being the voice and mind of a puppet is outright fun!"
"I am personally awed and released when I think that I may have contributed to the healing of a child. A healing child truly defines hope for a healthier future/society."
"I have always been a shy person. Puppeteering has really helped me to come out of my shell. I never knew I could be so funny."
"Puppeteering with KOTB is a wonderful way to play and experience the joy of being a child. I encourage anyone to come and play with us!"
"I experience a sense of giving back to my community. If I can save one child from being abused, I am contributing to peace in the world."
